Pat the Possum is a new kid’s CD recorded by the Country Pumpkins in November, 2017. The CD contains 9 songs that the band has been performing for the past 8 years as part of the Pat the Possum Show. It had its’ first appearance at the Eden Fishermen’s Club in 2009 followed by the Gympie Muster in the same year and Tamworth in January, 2010, right up to the Tilba Festival at Easter 2017. The title song was a finalist in the Children’s Section of the Tamworth Songwriters Association Awards in 2010 from the band’s previous CD, Granite Town.

All the songs were written by band member, Michelle Scobie, who is a fully qualified teacher. It is an educational tool around the themes of recycling and respect for our bush creatures. It includes Patrick the Possum, Lorikeet Sweet, Phil the Frillin’ Frill-Necked Lizard and Isabelle Bird. You’ll find all the words and chords at the bottom of the page.

Michelle plays bass and sings on the album and is joined by all the other band members. Husband Graham sings and plays guitar and harmonica, Daniel plays drums, Mary sings and makes various bird noises while Scott sings and plays mandolin and guitar.

The project was recorded by Richard Cooke in his Sanctuary Sound Studio at Tilba and he also plays guitars, dobro, banjo and glockenspiel on the album.

Pat the Possum CD can be purchased for $10 including postage from graham@scobie.com.au

PATRICK THE POSSUM

(intro = verse)

Chorus: I’m Patrick the possum, I live near the blossom
I’m old and I’m wise, and I do recognize
That creatures and plants, who can’t do a dance
Belong in their land, we must make a stand (repeat  He’s…)

Oysters and pearls, are part of the world
The mud and the silt, a home like a quilt
Take them right back, to the river bed black
Just leave them alone to live in their home Chorus (lead)

Our land needs all it’s plants and It’s leaves
We must all learn, that it is not our turn
To pick up or take things out of a lake
Just leave them alone to live in their home Chorus (lead)

I’m Patrick the possum, Patrick the possum, Patrick the possum,
Patrick the possum, Patrick the possum, Patrick the possum,
the possum, the possum, the possum, the possum!!!

(Intro first two lines whistled)

Rainbow bird, your friend.  Look around a bend
Rainbow bird the one, who spins around  and has fun
Rainbow bird I'm bright, full of colours of might

V1.A bright and shiny beak, it helps me now to eat
I use my brush tipped tongue, in the light of sun
I love to have a treat, nectar honey sweet
It comes down from the trees, who have flowers ‘n bees Ch1.  (lead play chorus)

V2.I’m blue and purple up top, with wings to flap or stop
A short and stubby tail, brightly coloured not pale
I live up, up high, in nests near the sky
When I’m on the ground, I love to splash around

Ch2.Rainbow bird, that's me.  A Rainbow Lorikeet.
Rainbow bird, your friend.  Look around a bend
Rainbow bird who listens, for music that glistens
I'm singing in time, I can hear a chime

SPIKELING RECYCLING

I’m a lizard with me spikes, and when I go on hikes
I detect, I collect, what others they reject
These things they stick like glue, or chewy on your shoe
I keep them for a while, you know they make me smile

CHORUS:
They’re my hanging and my dangling, spikeling and recycling,
Hanging, dangling, spikeling recycling stuff (REPEAT) (Lead)
I go through all the bins and take out all the tins
They clink and they clatter, like spoons upon a platter
I love to use again, things that they can’t mend

CHORUS x2 (Lead) CHORUSX2

NIGHT TIME STORIES

Chorus: Night time stories, we listen to their glories
Night time stories, we listen to their glories

1.While we’re inside, where it’s warm and it’s dry
Creatures of the night do a dance in the moonlight

2. Shuffling along, their tails, they sing a song
As they brush past the plants making music for a dance
Ch (lead play chorus)

3. While snuggled in our beds, their music fills our heads
The animals of night, dance with all their might

4. Hooting howling calling, you’d think that they are talking.
These guys are having fun, in the night without the sun.

Chorus x3
(Then chorus sung unaccompanied)
